Infusions.....and an Eccles Cake.

Good Evening,

I am pleased to have found a bit of time this afternoon for some experimental art!

But it proved to be a risky business all round......

At the recent papercrafting event at Alexandra Palace, I treated myself to some

Infusions pigment powders by PaperArtsy, gorgeous jewel colours with a hint of

grungy brown.

Well.....I'm really not to be trusted with anything powdery.....and the first challenge was

opening the bottle. Following Leandra's instructions I removed the top, over a piece of paper

(genius) to remove the seal and then made a hole in the top....QUICK GET THE STICKY

TAPE OVER THE HOLE! Phew! I only managed to do four colours before I lost my nerve.

So they were my colour choices for this afternoon :)

There was an incident..... during a momentary lapse in concentration, there was a waft.

It reached the plate, but I think it missed the Eccles cake. I managed to sweep it back

onto the picture, so none wasted. And I ate the cake.

I have to make twenty WHITE Victorian aprons next week so I had better clean up.

May have to create a safe environment for further powdery experiments...maybe a

very large cardboard box?

I started another fishy pic but it's not dry yet so call back later.

Still Practising the Doodles.......

And getting a bit of a headache :)

But it's all good fun.

Taken the doodles in a different direction to frame a photograph (or actually a

photocopy). Really like the white on black, but the pens tend to be a bit thicker

so the lines are not so delicate. Looks ok though....

Demonstrating at Alexandra Palace!

Aaaaaaaarrrrggghhhhh!!!!!

This weekend I will be doing my first ever demo session at a craft show at Alexandra

Palace in London, on the PaperArtsy stand, on Saturday afternoon.

In between settling in to a new job, and the usual dog walking sessions, I have been trying

to get as much practise in as possible to make it look like I actually know what I am doing!

I will be stencilling, stamping, colouring and most of all doodling to make mini and

stress-free works of art. Totally foolproof (needs to be for me to do it!).

Looks like it's going to be a fun event with lots to see......and probably spend :/

A Bit of Fancy Lettering......

Hello All,

Enjoyed a bit of fancy letter doodling this afternoon.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it "Calligraphy" and there were a few smudges

along the way! (hence the artistic cutting out).

But it was a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.

I based my letters on some Kim Dellow rubber stamps and coloured with

watercolour paints.

Will do more of this......

A Bit of ZIA......

Hi All,

Spent an hour or so this morning doodling a bit of ZIA (Zentangle Inspired

Art).

Not wanting to overstress my cold-fuddled brain, I made the outline drawing

using a JOFY stencil from PaperArtsy, and filled in the outlines with Zentangle

patterns, adding extra bits here and there. This works really well with any stencil

with blank open areas.

Pleasing result :)

And relaxing.......have a go.

A Mad Hatter.......

This week has seen a round up of some of the wonderful projects seen on the

PaperArtsy blog during 2015. There is SO much inspiration there so why not

take a look......

At the end of my little review this evening, I was asked to produce a "mash-up"

of my three allocated topics: Circles, Pigment Powders and Wearable Art. What

a combination! It all came together in a Mad Hat.

As promised here are a few more details of how it was done.......

First a selection of JOFY flowers stamped in Archival Ink.

I didn't have any pigment powders as such, so I had to improvise.......by

"powdering" Intense Ink sticks with a craft knife into puddles of water.

The colours blend and mix....with a bit of encouragement.

To make the feathers, I created the background first

with plenty of water and a bit of paper jiggling.

I dabbed on gilding medium with a scrunched up paper towel and brushed on the

flakes, then stamped JOFY feathers in Stazon ink.

After cutting everything out, I did a bit of flower art with wires, ribbons,

buttons, organza, and a silent thanks to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

circa 1975 ( Creative Interest - Flower arranging).

My daughter, who owns the hat, though appreciative of the artistic merit, was

relieved to know that the whole thing was assembled on a removable ribbon band!

Victorian Steampunk Meets Halloween!

Hello All,

                If you have been looking at the PaperArtsy blog you will have seen this

 slightly weird corset style belt and the happy Halloween style stamping.

Pity I don't have the waist for it these days!

I promised to post the details of the pattern so that you can make one yourself. It really is

very easy, I just wrapped some paper round my waist to get the shape.

Cut out the pieces (3 plus 3 in reverse). I have placed the pattern on the 1inch squared

background for easy copying. To fit, the long length of each piece should be extended

or reduced to measure half your waist measurement plus half an inch. The two pieces

will be joined at the back with a half inch seam. Obviously the lacing at the front allows

for some expansion!

Sew the quilting lines as shown, and then all round the edge. the raw edges are covered

by the lace edging or can be bias bound.

5 eyelets are inserted on each piece, half an inch in from the front edge.

And you don't have to sew.....

Well Hello people......it's been a while I know.

Sometimes the motivation wanes a bit, and blogging inspiration is difficult to find.
Practical tasks take over, too mundane to write about. And there's the "when I have
finished this I'll have so much time to do....." Er, no.

So to catch up...

My PaperArtsy project this week involved "Hidden Objects"

Messages in silk and stone. It's an interesting theme and well worth a look at what the
others have come up with so far.

With my practical hat on I made this snazzy waistcoat by request

and then played around with Zentangle stitching to get back into the free-machining
flow,

in preparation for a workshop for the Mannin Quilters group in September.
The motivation thing is so much better when you have PURPOSE (and a deadline).

And there's some interesting costume making coming up :)

Back to the practical.....giving the dog a haircut

He didn't want one.
